Alliance for Technology Refurbishing and Reuse

Mission Driven and Creating Impact

Supporting a thriving nonprofit technology refurbishment industry focused on ending the digital divide

AFTRR: Alliance for Technology Refurbishing & ReuseUnited by the concept of technology reuse and a shared vision of digital equity for all, the Alliance for Technology Refurbishing and Reuse (AFTRR) is a nationwide consortium of nearly 90 nonprofit technology refurbishers serving over 100 individual communities. Ranging in size and scope from large IT asset disposition solutions to local, volunteer-driven organizations, AFTRR processes and distributes an estimated 400,000 no-cost and low-cost computers annually, often paired with digital skills training and support.

Digitunity helps to coordinate and facilitate the collective work of the Alliance by hosting a national AFTRR conference each year, supporting working groups, matching corporate technology donors with recipient refurbishers, advocating for policies that help strengthen the work of the group, making key introductions, sharing opportunities, and amplifying the exceptional work being done by Alliance members.

President signs into law bipartisan legislation to provide refurbished government computers to America’s veterans, students, & seniors.

The Computers for Veterans and Students Act, a bipartisan effort led by Representative Abigail Spanberger, will provide federal surplus and repairable computers to non-profit computer refurbishers — who will then repair and distribute these computers to veterans, students, and others in need. This cross-sector effort involved Digitunity, Public Knowledge, Common Sense Media, the offices of Rep. Spanberger and Senator Maggie Hassan, and members of the AFTRR community, including Tech for Troops, Human I-T, Compudopt, HUBZone Technology Initiative, and Mission: Ignite. Corporate or Bulk Donations

Digitunity’s corporate concierge donation service helps businesses leverage their phased out or unused technology to support community members in need. This secure and environmentally responsible donation placement service is provided at no cost to businesses, and Digitunity staff members serve as your primary point of contact. Our team is here to ensure that each business donor’s unique security and logistics needs are met by the nonprofit organization selected to receive the technology donation.

Individuals In Need of a Computer

At Digitunity, we receive numerous requests every month from individuals across the country looking for assistance with obtaining a computer for work, school, or digital training. However, Digitunity does not provide computers directly to individuals. Instead, we connect donors of computers with community-based organizations, who then distribute them to individuals in need. Many AFTRR member organizations have options for individuals to apply to receive a low-or-no cost computer.

If you are seeking a computer, we encourage you to search for a nonprofit refurbisher near you and reach out to them directly to learn how each organization qualifies and distributes computers to recipients. Click on the map below to begin your search.
